LAU Students Win First and Second Prizes at the SDG Brain Lab

Two LAU student teams took first and second prizes at the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Brain Lab competition, organized by the UN Global Compact Network Lebanon (GCNL). The first prize winners had proposed a digital solution for cancer patients and their caregivers, while the second prize winners designed an app to help children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, addressing SDG 3 and SDG 4 respectively.

The Community Support Program (CSP) recognized and celebrated 15 LAU University Scholarship Program (USP) scholars who recently completed their internships in their respective home communities. The program, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), had assisted the scholars in realizing their development projects.

The Outreach and Civic Engagement Department (OCE) welcomed 66 new Ambassador Merit Scholars in a virtual annual homecoming event for the USAID Higher Education Scholarship (HES) Cycle II. The scholars were greeted with warm wishes for the new academic year by LAU President Michel E. Mawad, USAID Mission Director Eileen Devitt, Vice President Elise Salem and Assistant VP for OCE Elie Samia.

LAU’s Servants of Society

In the aftermath of the horrendous Beirut explosion, LAU students have embarked on the Servants of Society campaign, offering their help where it is needed: collecting and distributing in-kind donations, cleaning up the streets and homes in Beirut and connecting people with therapists for psychological support. The campaign was launched by the Outreach and Civic Engagement Department.

Students Share the Joy of Reading

Students from the LAU Higher Education Scholarship program, funded by USAID, volunteered at Dar Al Aytam Al Islamiya’s Reading Club, where they read stories to orphans, and taught them basic computer skills.

The activity was part of a larger series of volunteer work and outreach visits. The students supported children’s learning, while enriching their own experience in serving others.

Students Spread Warmth

LAU students joined a nationwide drive launched by the Outreach and Civic Engagement Department in collaboration with DAFA campaign to collect winter clothes and toys. They sorted donations, repackaged and distributed the food, clothing and other items and matched them to families in need.
